This is a review of the Western Digital My Passport 400GB USB Hard Drive.

View this in HD on here.

I think this a great item. I plugged it into my laptop, it worked automatically, and transferred 240 mega bytes of samples tot the USB hard drive in less than 40 seconds. Its small, easy to use, and affordable.

Here are some different sizes and prices.

nice review! glad to see hip hop taking it technical! the one thing I would stress since this is dealing with music making which involves alot of protools use (or can if you like that sort of thing) is that you can’t record directly to a USB Drive from protools. It really sucks that the computer industry is turning away from firewire which is a more advanced Serial Bus offering much better transfer rates (FW800= 800 Mbs USB2.0=480 Mbs if you don’t have anything else plugged in, the moon is in the correct alignment and you hold your mouth just right) which makes it harder to find affordable firewire drives with the Oxford chip set which is compatible with protools. I really like the options at Other World Computing http://www.macsales.com/ for firewire, which is still the better interface for High Capacity I/O
