Name? Mike Rockmore Location? The Netherlands How long have u been making music? I’ve been making music for about 6/7 years, I’ve been making hip hop since like 1,5 years. |
Music back ground:
Well I went from liking UK Garage to liking House music. Then I tried to make house music. I was heavily influenced by the French house wave. Some of my heroes in that period were: Patrick Alavi (Bassline king), Laidback Luke, Justice (before the hype), Sebastian and Manuel Tur. I had some small internet releases, when my interest in house music started fading away. At this time a friend of mine, who was coming up as an mc, asked me to make some beats for him, and I liked it. I love playing with rhythms (some of the more static elements in house). At this point I really started to appreciate Timbaland’s beats. I guess I’m pretty newskool, because I’ve been making house music for so long. So my idols are not from way back, all though in retrospect I appreciate DJ Premier, J Dilla and others a lot. They provide me with a lot of inspiration. But there are a lot of Dutch producers.
What equipment are u using?
FL Studio 4/8, Cool Edit Pro (editing), Cubase SX (for mixing), Reason (sometimes for the different creative process), 15 dollar midi-keyboard (lol, i prefer it over my Roland PC 200, small fingers) and the Akai MPD16. I mix on Alesis M1 Active MK2’s. I am in the process of buying an MPC, just so I know how it is making music on that beast
.
Current projects?
I am working on a lot of thing right now, but most of them are in the Netherlands. I am working with some well known, national artists, but they won’t ring any bells
. I would like to work with talented, hardworking, persistent, American artists.
Describe your production style?
I’d say I have an own style by now. I think you can hear that I’m influenced by Timbo, Neptunes and Dilla the most. But I’d like to think that I put my own spin on their styles. Maybe it’s from my house past, I love putting electronic elements in to the stuff I produce. Stuff that will make your head bounce. Bangers, that’s what I love to make. I love it when people think, what the heck is this and the bounce their heads to it.
Are u using a lot of samples?
Well no, not a lot. I sometimes do, but most of my production are sample-less. I am getting in to it more and more though. When I do I sample a lot of arab music or gypsy music.
