I recently attended the concert that featuring Lupe Fiasco, N.E.R.D, Rihanna and Kanye West in Los Angeles California.
I personally took way to long to purchase my tickets. I bought them a week before the concert because I was hesitant to pay so much for a ticket. But I heard so many great reviews, that I couldn’t pass on the chance to see the concert. So I ended up paying 3 times the original price of the ticket to be in the noise bleed section.
Lupe Fiasco opened up the concert, with alot of energy and jumping around. He didn’t stand still for a second, and that show he was enjoying the music and trying to give the audience their moneys worth. Next was N.E.R.D, with a live band, and some great drummers. They really got the the crowd hyped with their rock type of tracks. Next was Rihanna, who I actually could have done with out. I’m not much of a fan of hers.
I’m not giving very much detail on the performances above, because even though they were nice. Nothing could compare the performance of Kanye West. The only way I can really describe his performance is AMAZING. You can’t do nothing but respect this guys passion for his art.
I have to be honest. I have had beef with Kanye’s attitude in the past of throwing fits and being overly cocky, and its still like that a little bit. But this guy is a true source of inspiration. Most of the crowd stood and passionately rapped along with everyone one of his songs, as the live orchestra played.
I don’t want to ruin the concert for anyone, but he put on a performance that I doubt anyone else could follow. It played out as a story of his space ship crashed on some unkown planet. He talked Dolores ( I think thats the name ), the main computer controlling his crashed space ship. As he talked to a big computer screen trying to figure out how to get home, each part of the story lead to a different song that he performed.
Visually, I was stunned. I have never seen a set up on a stage, like the one Kanye had. He stood on a ground that lit up with video, and the background had video as well. So as he performed, when kicks and snares in the music hit. Burst of bright lights below and around him exploded.
Here is a video I found on youtube so you can see what I’m talking about.Even though I was far up in the area. Video on the big screen was documented pretty well so I didn’t feel I missed a thing.
Kanye entertained the crowd most of the time up there alone. He had a guess appearance by Lupe to perform "Touch the Sky", and beside that, he did his thing alone for 60 minutes.
I was totally happy at the end of the concert, and I would recommend it to anyone that wants to see a great performance.
I highly doubt I will ever see a concert that will be so creative and inspiring again. As a graphic designer and music maker. His performance truly impressed me in every way. It was musically and visually everything that every other rapper/singer/band should be aiming for. Because the industry is truly lacking creativity/originality, and Kanye performance didn’t lack either.
I give Kanye major props for this.
Did you go? If so, what did you think?
I do have to say I was a little disappointed that I couldn’t get the free book by Kanye, entitled "Thank you, and Your Welcome". But the good thing is I just found it online for only $10. http://www.kanyeuniversecity.com/store/
